Application-specific notes for Driving Licence
- Sarathi asks for camera photos or scans at a resolution of at least 300 DPI, in true colour, saved as JPG (for example image01.jpg).
- The photo should be in colour against a light-coloured, preferably white, background, taken within the last six months.
- Applicants who can't sign upload a thumb impression in place of the signature: the right thumb for women and the left thumb for men.
- Sarathi tells you to keep each file under 20 KB by adjusting the scanner settings or cropping and resizing; if a file is over 20 KB, reduce the scan resolution or crop closer rather than lowering quality until the face blurs.

Sarathi checks two separately prepared files
The Sarathi record sets the colour photo at 10–20 KB, with a preferred 420×525 px canvas. The black-pen signature uses its own 10–20 KB band and preferred 256×64 px canvas. Confirm the accepted file format in the current Sarathi upload screen.
The scan guide is shared through Sarathi
Driving-licence and learner's-licence applications use the Sarathi upload workflow even though the issuing RTO is administered by the state. This page follows the national Sarathi scan guide rather than inferring different image numbers for each state; confirm the current instructions shown for your selected state and service. What can block the Sarathi upload
Sarathi displays an error when a file is outside the prescribed values. Its guide also warns that an unclear face or signature can require a re-upload, so crop each image to its edges and keep the photograph and signature as separate files.
